The results showed that Lm had a significant effect on the number of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and the recruitment of immune effector cells, which strongly supports the anti-tumor immunity. To modify immune suppression of tumor microenvironment, is still a combination of other immune therapy to treat other cancers in addition to ovarian cancer.
Fiering said: "the tumor microenvironment is regulated to enable the immune suppression of the phagocytic cells to be converted into a cell that supports an anti tumor immune response," which was originated in the experiment 100 years ago by Dr. Coley William. We are now able to design microbes that make them safe and useful, and they can also be used to track an anti tumor immune response, which has a potential for cancer treatment."
The attenuated strain of Lm, developed by Aduro biotechnology Co Ltd, has been used in clinical trials for pancreatic cancer treatment. "Our study further provides the relevant mechanisms and how this approach can be used for cancer treatment, and will support future clinical trials for ovarian cancer treatment," Fiering said."
